JANUARY 29, 2013: MELBOURNE’S GRAND SALVO ADDED TO SHORTLIST AND AMP ALIVE BILL

SPECIAL GUEST SET TO SURPRISE AND IGNITE AMP ALIVE

Just days before Amp Alive ignites Melbourne’s Federation Square, The Coopers Amp are pleased to welcome Grand Salvo to the shortlist for his sixth album ‘Slay Me In My Sleep’. Grand Salvo also joins the prestigious Amp Alive bill, performing alongside fellow shortlisted artists Urthboy, Hermitude and Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors.

With a revered back catalogue, Paddy Mann (Grand Salvo) extends himself once again with ‘Slay Me In My Sleep’ - a work largely recorded and co-produced in Berlin by composer Nils Frahm. Set to expansive and joyous instrumentation, the album depicts a tale of strange love with vivid detail, whimsy and beauty, in true Grand Salvo fashion. It’s a story that has pricked the ears and hearts of the The Coopers Amp judges and is now receiving rightful recognition through the respected prize.

‘Slay Me In My Sleep’ is one of nine albums that will be shortlisted for The 8th Australian Music Prize. With Urthboy (‘Smokey’s Haunt’), Hermitude (‘Hyper-Paradise’) and Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors (‘My Little River’) already announced, the remaining five shortlisted artist albums will be unveiled on Friday, February 1st at Amp Alive. Hosted by Clare Bowditch and Kevin Mitchell, the event is free and open to the public thanks to the support of City of Melbourne and Federation Square. Head along to the Amp Alive Facebook Event Page for more details.

Amp Alive will see performances from each of the shortlisted artists to date, as well as a very special performance from a surprise guest. Well known amongst triple j audiences for their frenzied tracks and feisty sell out shows, this special guest will be flying in to not only set alight Amp Alive but also celebrate their shortlisting.

The winner of The Coopers Amp, and the $30,000 prize money courtesy of principal partner PPCA, will be crowned in March.
